Amy and her husband, both born and raised in Washington, have been residents of Duvall since 2001.
The daughter of an auto glass installer / store manager and bookkeeper Amy was born in the Tri-Cities where she lived with her older brother and parents until kindergarten, when her father was transferred to manage an auto glass store in Bellevue. Her mother was a stay at home mom until difficult financial times necessitated a return to the work force, first as an independent sales woman for a national cosmetic company and later as the office manager for a northwest seed company.
Amy graduated from Federal Way High School and attended Eastern Washington University on an instrumental music scholarship, majoring in music education before becoming interested in student government.
In 1998 Amy met her future husband, Brady, shortly before her election to the Associated Students of Eastern Washington University council. As the Student Services representative, she was the founding chair of the Student Technology Fee Committee, which was responsible for researching, gaining widespread student and staff support for and implementing a long-term strategy for student access to technology. The plan received approval from the students through a referendum and is now responsible for raising nearly $1 million in revenue each year and provides students with on-campus wireless internet access, on-campus computer labs, the ability to check out digital cameras, camcorders, laptops and software discounts.
The following year after becoming engaged to Brady, Amy moved to Western Washington and worked as the office administrator for a family owned small business (a pro-sound manufacturer’s representative firm) where she was an integral part of maintaining good customer relationships.
Nearly six years ago Amy’s passion to return to and expand her personal commitment to public service led her to leave the firm in pursuit of work that would allow full-time service to her community. This move resulted first in employment as the campaign manager for our 45th District State Representative Larry Springer. After Representative Springer’s successful election to the Washington State Legislature Amy served as his Legislative Assistant where she worked extensively with the citizens of the City of Duvall and 45th Legislative District to solve problems and concerns with city, county, state and federal government agencies and help those most in need. She was also in charge of tracking pending legislation, working with staff to draft new legislation and developing and managing key stakeholder communications throughout the legislative process.
During her tenure with Representative Springer, Amy worked on important legislation that gave cities and counties and extra year to comply with GMA comprehensive plans (HB 2418), legislation that allows jurisdictions to enact or expand affordable housing incentive programs (HB 2948) and a bill that requires condemning agencies (cities and counties) to reimburse landowners for costs incurred protecting their land (HB 3017).
In July 2007, she accepted a position as an Executive Analyst with the Snohomish County Executive Office where she works daily with citizens to resolve concerns that primarily entail complicated land use and human service needs. In addition, her responsibilities include managing state and federal affairs for the Executive, serving as a public information officer during emergencies such as flooding, snow storms and public health scares, organizing and managing large public events such as National Night Out Against Crime, serving as the Executive Office liaison to local and regional committees and providing staff support to the Executive for regional agencies and committees such as Sound Transit.
Amy has served on the City of Duvall Planning Commission since January 2008 and currently holds the position of Vice-Chair. Her service on the Planning Commision has provided Amy with the background needed to make effective growth and economic development related decisions as a city councilmember.
When Amy is not at her “day job” or attending Planning Commission meetings, she enjoys spending time with her husband hiking, golfing, visiting family and friends, traveling and taking her Golden Retriever/black Labrador, Kali, swimming.
